two girls from two indias, one plot twist
One grew up in big city Bangalore amidst tech, ambition and global exposure, in the hustle where dreams are a luxury. The other from quaint Bhopal, where life is simple but “kuch bada karna hai” is woven into every girl’s kurti. We we told to fit in, we were told to tone it down.
Different pin codes, same pressure to fit in.
We met halfway — somewhere between jugaad and junoon — and called it Bindee. This is our story.
Every Imtiaz Ali film starts with two lost girls looking for themselves.
Bindee Drop 1 is that film — only this time, we’re the directors, the heroines, and the costume designers.
From Bhopal to Bangalore, from chaos to chamak — this is where our story begins.
we met at a beauty pageant (didn’t win the crown)
Both inspired by fashion, both wanting to be heroines, both pulled into the world of beauty when we were teenagers. We didn’t win — but we did find each other.
Two heroines who realised the real pageant is everyday life.
The one where you choose to show up as you.
Turns out, the crown looks better when it’s homemade.

“khud ka dhanda shuru karein?”
Life took us to Mumbai - to work as freelancers in the world of fashion, glitz, Bollywood films and more. And we saw up close what ‘manufactured beautiful’ really means. Through it all - we kept asking ‘there’s got to be more to this’.
So one day,
One voice note. Two chai cups. A mad idea - to make every Indian girl see herself as the heroine of her life.
No funding, no factory — just fire.
“Pehle dhanda, phir banda.” became our favourite dialogue.
And the rest of the film wrote itself.

So we ran back to our identity - our roots. Which was hiding behind layers of makeup and costly designer outfits while we were at work. And hiding behind tank tops and brands while we weren’t at work.
What stayed constant - was a bindee.

Indian girls are kept away from money, dhanda and seemingly ‘off-limit’ concepts. They had been for us. Look pretty, talk sweetly and say ‘sorry’. We say - yes, it’s possible to be that girl, while SLAYING your dreams with audacity. By saying what you really mean - to your family, friends, boss or partner. By dressing up - for YOU, not the world.
Trust us. Been there, done that.
